Tajweed and Qira'at

There are ten methods of reciting the words of the Holy Qur’an that have been successively transmitted from Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This means that there is formal permission to read the words of the Qur’an in various styles. These methods, which reached us through certain narrators, are popularly known by the names of these narrators as “Qira’at”.

The style in which the Qur’an is printed and commonly read is known as the narration of Hafs. This style of reading is also referred to as “Tajweed”. Apart from the narration of Hafs, there are nine other methods of reciting the Qur’an. Among these, the first six methods, combined with the narration of Hafs, are known as “Qira’at Sab’ah” (the seven recitations). The remaining three methods are termed as “Qira’at Thalath” (the three recitations). All these methods collectively are referred to as “Malaqarat Ashrah” (the ten recitations).

Memorization of the Holy Qur'an

In this department, an extremely high-standard and fast-paced system of memorizing the Holy Qur’an has been implemented. Now, thanks be to Allah, highly experienced and trained teachers are engaged in teaching in this department. This is an extremely important branch of Paidaarululoom, and to date, approximately thousands of children have completed their memorization. In the academic year 2005-06, by the grace of Allah, 20 students completed the memorization of the Qur’an and participated in the examination. During 2005-06, 90 students were being taught in this department, for whom the responsibilities of accommodation, food, and medical care were all taken up by Darul Uloom. Special training is given to the teachers of this department so that they can teach according to the psychology of the children, avoiding any kind of harshness or severity. They are advised to teach with utmost gentleness and compassion. Preliminary religious education, the practical method of communal prayers, the Six Kalimas (six fundamental creeds), Iman Mufassal (detailed declaration of faith), Iman Mujmal (concise declaration of faith), Dua Qunoot, and some daily prayers are also taught to the children during their memorization phase.

Nazirah (Qur'an Reading)

In this department, from the beginning, children are taught to read the Holy Qur’an with the correct pronunciation. Currently, four expert and experienced teachers are engaged in teaching. Special attention is given to children in this department, as it is a very foundational level. Special care is taken to ensure that no untrained teacher is associated with this department, so that in the shortest possible time, children can complete their reading of the Holy Qur’an with the correct intonation and accent. Children are taught the Noorani Qaida (a basic guide to learn the rules of Qur’an pronunciation) using a blackboard. Children are divided into groups for lessons, keeping in mind their individual learning levels within these groups.

Tajweed (Narration of Hafs)

In this department, along with Tajweed, elementary Persian, spelling, composition, arithmetic, Sarf, and Nahw have been proposed in a three-year curriculum. The complete curriculum can be viewed separately in the pamphlet.
